You’ve Probably Been Charging Your Phone Wrong All This Time

Many people are addicted to their phones.

Who wouldn’t be tbh? Mobile phones have transcended just making calls. These days, you can do a lot more with your mobile phone as functionality keeps expanding. You can transfer money, fill forms, write and reply emails and so much more on your mobile device.

The increased functionality on mobile phones means batteries will often run out and will need charging.

And the longer you’ve had your phone, the more likely it would be that your phone won’t hold a charge for as long as it used. This is because the battery in your phone can age and usually has a life of 3-5 years.

It turns out that most of us have been charging our phones wrong.

Many people including yours truly believe that charging your phone’s battery in short bursts will damage the battery in the long term and it’s better to wait till the battery is low before you charge.

Apparently, leaving your phone plugged in when it’s fully charged is bad for the battery.

Once your phone reaches 100%, you should unplug it. This is because once your phone is fully charged but is still plugged in, it receives trickle charge which keeps it at 100%. This stresses the battery and causes it to break down in the long run. So, you should unplug your phone as soon as it is fully charged and do not charge it overnight.

The best thing about smartphones is that you don’t need to fully charge it everytime you use it.

Lithium-ion batteries found in most smartphones do not need to be fully charged. And is often better to not charge the battery fully as this will stress the battery. So, the best way to charge your phone is in short bursts, not in the big end of the day charge.
