Ghallywood is the glamour section of Ghana’s movie industry with Kumawood, being the more indigenous section.
As explained, they are all about glamour and ohh my! can they go overboard. You watch a Ghallywood movie and you wonder if it’s indeed depicting our country. Everything looks so foreign.
Here are 11 annoying things Ghallywood movie producers need to stahp now.
1. Sleeping/Waking Up With Makeup.
We know it’s for the camera and all that but must it be so obvious? Someone wakes up from bed in the morning and she already has on a full-blown makeup. Like where did you go in your sleep? Funny thing is, the makeup will be so perfect, I mean how? Who sleeps with makeup and wakes up with it still perfect on their face?

2. Making Out As If They’re Fighting.
You watch a kissing scene or a makeout scene in a Ghallywood movie and you feel as if you’re watching a fight scene. The sheer aggression from the actors will leave you jaw dropped. They start by kissing like lovers who’ve been away from each other for so long and just met and then begin to tear each other’s clothes off before hitting the bed. And what’s with all those silly sex noises they make? And the guy will be moving on the lady with so much aggression you wonder if he’s trying to get pleasure or injury.
3. A Village Girl With Makeup, Lashes And Brazilian Hair.
I think they normally forget that the actress is acting out a village scene as a village girl. Even though ladies in the rural areas out on makeup, it’s not as professional as our actresses who accompany them with eye lash extensions. To top it up, they compliment it with some good weave. In which village will you see this in Ghana?

4. Unnecessary Friends.
One girl in a movie has over 6 friends who are always with her. We all have friends but do they go everywhere with us or come to our house all day every day? Definitely not. In most Ghallywood productions, you’ll have the lead girl having a bunch of friends who are always with her. In almost every scene in the movie where she appears, you’ll find them with her. Come on people, don’t these friends have a life of their own? Just too much.

5. Over Exaggerated Stories.
The way stories are over exaggerated in Ghallywood movies is more than torture. something that can be done in 5 minutes will take 30 minutes. They go around a story, make it unnecessarily complex and then at the end give you the exact flat ending you envisaged.
6. Royals Followed Around By Guards And Maidens.
We have royals in Ghana but how many do you see walking around with guards and maidens who keep spraying rose petals around them? This is so not us. In Ghallywood movies, you’ll even get a King’s son or daughter, walking around with maidens and guards. Like in which town are you going to do that in Ghana?

7. Sons And Daughters Of Presidents/Ministers Going Around With Gangs Shooting.
This is something I’m yet to see happen in this country. I understand that in movie making, you can depict pretty much anything but the truth is that it has to be relatable. You can make a movie set in Ghana and tell me a Minister’s son is going around threatening people with a gun in public. This can’t and won’t happen in Ghana.

8. ICU With Just IV Stand.
Intensive care units cater to patients with severe and life-threatening illnesses and injuries, which require constant, close monitoring and support from specialist equipment and medications in order to ensure normal bodily functions. How on earth can you tell us someone is in ICU and you show them in a pretty much empty room with just a hospital bed, drawer and an IV stand? This is Ghallywood’s interpretation of Intensive Care Unit.

9. Drive Left and Right, Hit A Tree, Slam Head On Dashboard.
This is a typical vehicle accident rendition in a Ghallywood movie. You’ll find the actor driving, then they start turning their steering to the left and to the right while shouting. After doing this for a while, they drive into a tree or an obstacle and the next thing is their head on the steering wheel with blood oozing out. Boy!!

10. Hollywood Movie Copies.
A lot of Ghallywood movies are adaptations of Hollywood movies. The annoying aspect of this all is that they won’t even accept but will defend that they actually wrote everything from beginning to end. How can two movies have the same storyline and similar screenplay and dialogue????

11. Too Much LAFA.
LAFA means Locally Acquired Foreign Accent. Watch a Ghallywood movie and this is what you’ll hear through out. A lot of the actors try so hard to speak with an American accent. A lot of people have spoken against this but it looks like that is what they want to sell.
